Pleasantly surprised.

Hello! Welcome to my first actual post about a painting I've done. Now, it's taken me an extremely long time to actually get around to doing some painting (I've no excuse, I just didn't want to challenge myself) so I kicked myself up the bum and decided to give one a go today. I only had one decent sized canvas and this one had been cut (not sure how), which detracts a fair bit from the scene, I also didn't have the money to go out and purchase another one, so I just made do. I make no claims about being the greatest artist in the world, I know I am merely a novice, but I do enjoy it (when I actually get a round to doing it) and was very surprised with what I came up with, especially since the last time I completed a painting was over ten years ago, and in highschool for that matter. So without further ado, here it is: As you can see I'm not very good with trees, but I think I did pretty well with the clouds, shrubbery and hills despite the length of ...

Remodelled Chaos Bike.

Man did I ever enjoy this completing this model! I took a fraction of the time it did for the original and I'm getting used to a bit more texturing now. I've also begun experimenting the likes of skulls, so my current one on the front of the bike isn't too good. Nonetheless I'm happy with how it turned out seeing as how it was my first attempt at creating a skull in Maya :D. Here it is in wire-frame (it looks a mess but the separate components are below :p): And a pic of all of the separate components in wire-frame: This is the part I am most proud of, I've worked hard at this and am very pleased with the final, rendered result. I feel I've made huge progress since I started 7 months ago; I can model pretty accurately, get proportions damn near spot on, am working at bump mapping, have gotten pretty good with lights, and am keeping my poly's pretty tidy (although I could do better :D).  To highlight how much I...

Busy busy busy. Part 3.

Time for the final installment of this post. Recently my wife's aunt got quite sick and we traveled a couple of hours to another town to go see her. On the way I took a few photos of the scenery passing by. If you haven't guessed by now, I'm a huge fan of landscape in general :).

Busy busy busy. Part 2.

Hello again! I recently lost all of my Maya/Blender projects because a) my computer sucks and b) I was an idiot and didn't double check to see if I had backed up my projects. Nevertheless, lesson learned. However, I have since discovered that while I had been steadily improving, since getting everything back up and running (and being in possession of a 2TB hard drive for backup), I have cut my work time on Maya dramatically. I have just restarted a lost project (my Chaos Bike) and not only does it look a thousand times better, the individual pieces are taking a fraction of the time to re-create. For example, I created the engine block today: before it took me around two to three hours to complete. Today? Half an hour. Needless to say, I'm super chuffed with this and determined to have this completed by weeks end, I'm also beginning to play with human features and created my first skull. While the skull doesn't look amazing at the moment, I'm sure I'll improve qu...

Busy busy busy. Part 1.

Hello! Have I ever been busy.  Over the past couple of weeks I've been struck by a huge creative bug, and as an avid war gamer, I noticed that the one I was lacking was some really cool scenery. So, with this in mind, I looked up a bunch of tutorials on how to create your own, for cheap, and decided to try my hand at it.  The following pics are of what I created, and I thought it all turned out pretty damn well, considering this was only my first time truly giving it a go. My aim was to create a whole lot of greenery and ruins, but after watching a tutorial on painting snow, I decided to at least half in a more winter dominated theme. Also, everything you see in these photos was painted by me as I am a poor student with no money to pay others for a professional finish. I have to give a huge thank you to Dave, and Papa Smurf from miniwargaming , LordOrionis, and Milos and Shomi from Quick Tips for all of the great tips on creating and painting this sc...
