World design in Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is a game set inside the mind of a Celtic warrior and depicts her struggle with psychosis. As the theme hints, the game is rather dark and filled with Viking style ruins and buildings and depicts many forested areas in keeping with Celtic and Viking tradition. Because we are inside the mind of Senua (the main character) there is a wonderfully crafted and unique setting that shifts and changes as Senua traverses her environment. Elements from her reality and her mind clash as the player progresses giving unique and interesting ways to solve puzzles. The world leans toward a linear approach in its exploration, with the player being able to progress in one direction most of the time. Levels can be confusing at times as there is no minimap or map in general for the player to gain reference, simply the players own sense of direction. Mass Effect Andromeda: Atmosphere.

Right off the bat Mass Effect Andromeda hits the player with that sci-fi feel. Bioware has learnt over the course of the Mass Effect series how to perfect the implementation of sci-fi atmosphere through their use of differing visual elements such as lighting, atmospheric fog, hyper-realism and model design. The planet is barren, dusty and seemingly uninhabited. Bioware achieves this quality through the use of juxtaposition in their scene composition. The color palette is very brown which contrasts greatly with the sleek, clinical white of the buildings placed by the Andromeda Initiative (the players faction) and the bright blue of the sky above. Progression in free hand drawing.

Hi, all! I've been waiting to do this post for about a week now and am very excited. I am not ashamed to say that this is my best free hand portrait so far, and looking back when i first started ten months ago, and very proud to display this for everyone to see. This post will show a progression of the steps I took to complete my latest character portrait as well as a comparison to what I did ten months ago and in between. Thanks for reading/looking! Okay, so it turns out that I have somehow misplaced the photos that I took that displayed the complete process, but I have managed to find a couple, including the final, completed piece. I can tell you however, that I simply began by dividing the page into quarters then took measurements from the picture and scaled them up. I mostly just alternated between a 2B and 6B pencil.
