Progression in free hand drawing.

Hi, all! I've been waiting to do this post for about a week now and am very excited. I am not ashamed to say that this is my best free hand portrait so far, and looking back when i first started ten months ago, and very proud to display this for everyone to see. This post will show a progression of the steps I took to complete my latest character portrait as well as a comparison to what I did ten months ago and in between. Thanks for reading/looking! Okay, so it turns out that I have somehow misplaced the photos that I took that displayed the complete process, but I have managed to find a couple, including the final, completed piece. I can tell you however, that I simply began by dividing the page into quarters then took measurements from the picture and scaled them up. I mostly just alternated between a 2B and 6B pencil. Camera Angles in Resident Evil Remastered

Resident Evil Remastered(2002, Capcom) is unique not only in the fact that it was one of the first zombie horror games to come to console, but also in the way it used its cameras. Capcom comprises their camera work in Resident Evil from fixed angles. These fixed angles allow for a more purposeful and immersive design and fits in with the horror genre style of gameplay perfectly. The creators of the game were able to place these cameras in such a way as to facilitate jump scares by hiding enemies and encounters, establishing immersive shots for narrative and dictating what the player could see. This gave the creators a large amount of control over how the game was to be played. Enhancing the part of horror in this early gen game was amplified most by the camera work. Creating a map

This exercise got me really excited, there’s nothing more I enjoy than world building and I’ve been building a world in my spare time over the past year, so what better excuse than to draw a map for it (albeit one of my first so excuse the poor quality). This map of Korlath is representative of the races within, where they dwell and how the region is split. Korlath is split into four main areas: Kingdom of Roldem, ruled by humans in the South East, The Clanhold Mountains in the North held by Dwarves, The Fey Forest in the East where the elves live and the Barren Wastelands to the North West where no life exists. Running from the Forgotten Sea in the West and through the majority of the Region is the life sustaining River Numenora. With these main areas in mind I began to design my map, adding smaller villages and medium towns in between the larger capitals, all connected by roads.
